ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) — Across the National Football League, it’s the million-dollar question.
And the Detroit Lions will get a chance to figure it out on Sunday at Ford Field (1 p.m. ET on CBS).
How can you stop Lamar Jackson, the quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens?
• Where has Ben’s no-huddle offense disappeared to? • How the Raiders’ offensive line has persisted • Bills-WFT will have a Carolina vibe • Don’t blame Cousins for the Vikings’ 0-2 start • D-minded Fangio and Saleh are the outliers
“I wish I knew,” Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn said, “but I’ll tell you what, we’re going to give it our all.” “I believe our team members are looking forward to each new challenge. We’ve had a struggle every week, and this week is no exception.”
Following a 35-17 defeat to the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football, the Lions are devising a strategy to attempt to pull off an upset. Detroit is also hoping to avoid starting 0-3 for the first time since 2015, when they went 7-9.
“You have to give the ball population,” Lions DE Michael Brockers said. “Everyone must be able to tackle, and everyone must be able to wrap up. We have to look at that as well, because if we get everyone to the ball, with everyone ripping and stripping at the ball, it’s all about population and getting everyone to the ball on defense.”
They know they’re up against an uphill fight against Jackson, who comes into Ford Field with a four-game run of 80 rushing yards, the longest of his career and the longest current streak in the NFL.
Lions coach Dan Campbell confessed to marveling at Jackson’s highlight video before preparing to coach against him. That is no longer the case.

“I used to do that before I was a head coach, and you feel a bit sick to your stomach preparing for him,” Campbell said. “But, let’s face it, he’s a dynamic player with exceptional skill and talent who touches the ball 67-70 times each game.
“He’s going to have it in his hands, so you play the odds and do all you can to minimize their explosiveness, but inevitably, no matter how excellent you are, you look and they’ve rushed for 100 yards 41 straight times,” he said. “That’s what they’re good at.”
The Ravens have the most choices, pre-snap movements, and planned quarterback runs in the NFL. In many respects, it resembles a college offense in terms of how the quarterback is used as a runner.
Most Games with 100 Rush Yards in a Row
On Sunday, Jackson recorded his 11th 100-yard running game, tying Michael Vick for the most by a quarterback in NFL history.
Campbell, like many others, believes Vick is the league’s “closest thing” to Jackson. However, Detroit will try to restrict his explosiveness by keeping him out of the wide field and forcing him to hand the ball off, all while piling up tackles for loss and stops, which may be the difference between a win and a defeat.
“He’s a rare breed for his explosiveness and speed, and then certainly being able to throw the ball,” Campbell said. “Because the minute you try to take all of that stuff away and you have to have a jump on it, you have to have a step on where you need to be to get to your gap, that’s when they come right behind you and they got speed now at receiver to get o.”
“For us, that’s the key. It’s just a matter of figuring out how to get them in third and long. It’s a lot simpler to say than to accomplish. I believe our offensive will play a significant role in this if we can find a way to go up on these guys and put a little more pressure on them, getting in some third and long situations, and forcing them into more familiar passing downs. However, these people will be in charge.”
